Hotel La Joya is a small 10 room hotel out near Punta Sur, bay side, just down the hill from Garrafon.

We stayed there for 3 nights at the end of December. I had first seen it about 4 years ago while out on a girls golf cart tour and had always wanted to stay there.

It is a lovely, tranquil hotel with breathtaking views of the bay and that beautiful water.

The rooms are spotless, with mini-fridges and TV’s. Our room had a large armoire for storage, as well as a sitting area with coffee table and 2 chairs.

Some rooms have one queen bed, others have 2 doubles.

All rooms face the bay and have either a deck or patio, with table, chairs and a hammock (we fought over that)

There are pictures of the rooms on their website. If available, I would recommend Rooms 1 or 2. They are the original rooms and have some unique architectural features.

There is a communal dining room and kitchen available. Now, I refuse to cook on vaca, but if you are so inclined the kitchen is equipped with a large refrigerator, range, microwave, coffee maker (we did make use of that), and freezer, as well as pots and pans, dishes etc. The dining room is a nice, cheery space with an internet enabled computer for guest use.

The pool is great. Clean. Great views of the sunset from it. There are steps down to the beach (which was non-existent, but I am sure there is one sometimes) where you will find 2 kayaks available for guest use.

The grounds are really pretty and well-kept.

NOTE: There are many, many steps!! If you have mobility issues, this is not the property for you. It is long ways down to the water from the entrance to the property.

The included continental breakfast is coffee, orange juice and toast with condiments. You can request the time you would like it delivered to your room.

Nearby eats: El Pueblito, the restaurant at Punta Sur, and Garrafon Beach Club (the hotel, not the park, but $5 entrance fee). Maria’s KanKin is almost right next door, and according to reports is a lovely place for dinner.

One night we walked to La Bruja, a great little restaurant in Colonia La Gloria. It was about a 15 minute walk.

Taxis: We paid 50 pesos to centro. Never had a problem walking up to the road and hailing a taxi.

You could also walk to the roundabout by Mundaca Zoo and hop on the bus for 4 pesos.

The onsite manager and his family are very sweet, but speak little English. I reserved our room in November when I was on Isla, taking along an amiga that speaks fluent Spanish (thanks Sandia)

Kathryn, of Kathryn’s Travel, books this property. The link to her website is above. Because of the possible communication problems, I would strongly recommend using her services.

So, there you have it!!
Overall, a big thumbs up!! If you want to just chill, relax and take in the quiet beauty of Isla, this place cannot be beat (IMO)

(And I am a “townie”.......LOL)

Now, some pics!
